Casualty Blanket

An olive drab blanket with an aluminized reflective inner surface, built to MIL-B-36964 Type II. Medics and Soldiers use it to prevent hypothermia in casualties and as an emergency survival blanket or shelter layer.

Foam Sleeping Mat (ISO Mat)

A closed-cell foam sleeping pad that insulates the sleeping bag from cold, wet ground. It rolls into a compact cylinder with attached tie straps for carry on the rucksack.

Folding Cot

The standard military folding cot: a square-tube aluminum frame with steel leg braces and a heavy olive-drab nylon or canvas sleeping surface, roughly 77 by 25 inches. Used for field sleeping in tents, barracks overflow, and aid stations.

Poncho Liner (“Woobie”)

A quilted nylon ripstop liner with polyester fill and tie cords, made to snap into the wet weather poncho. Universally known as the 'woobie,' Soldiers use it as a lightweight blanket in the field and in garrison.

Wet Weather Poncho

A lightweight ripstop nylon rain poncho with hood, snaps, and corner grommets. Soldiers wear it over the uniform and gear in wet weather and also rig it as a hasty shelter or ground cloth.

E-Tool Carrier

A MOLLE II nylon pouch that holds the folded entrenching tool and attaches to the rucksack, belt, or other MOLLE-compatible gear. Soldiers use it to keep the e-tool secured and quickly accessible in the field.

Entrenching Tool (E-Tool)

A folding shovel carried by individual Soldiers for digging fighting positions, hasty trenches, and drainage around shelters. The blade locks straight for use as a shovel or at 90 degrees for use as a pick, and the tool folds compactly for carry on the rucksack or belt.

Sandbag (Empty)

An empty olive drab 14 x 26 inch sandbag with an attached tie string, made to MIL-B-52472 / A-A-52142. Filled with sand or dirt, it is the basic building block for fighting positions, bunkers, blast walls, and flood control.

Barracks Bag

Olive drab cotton drawstring bag, roughly 24 x 32 inches, stamped 'U.S.' on the front. Issued to Soldiers to hold and turn in laundry and to haul loose personal gear in the barracks.

Duffel Bag

The Army Improved Duffel Bag (IDB) in olive drab 1000-denier nylon, with a large two-way zipper opening, padded backpack straps, compression straps, and a clear ID window. It is the current-issue bag Soldiers use to pack and transport TA-50 and personal gear.

Wet Weather Bag

An olive drab rubberized waterproof clothing bag, roughly 16 x 29 inches, closed with a drawstring tie. Soldiers use it inside rucksacks and duffels to keep clothing and sleeping gear dry, and as a laundry or dry-storage bag.

100-MPH Tape (OD Duct Tape)

Olive drab cloth-backed waterproof adhesive tape, 2 inches wide by 60 yards, 12 mil thick. Known universally as '100 mph tape,' Soldiers use it for field repairs, securing gear, weatherproofing, and taming anything that rattles.

550 Cord (Parachute Cord)

Braided nylon cord with seven inner strands and a minimum breaking strength of 550 pounds, made to MIL-C-5040/PIA-C-5040 Type III. Soldiers use it for lashing gear, dummy-cording equipment, shelter construction, bootlaces, and countless field-expedient tasks.

Cable Ties (Zip Ties)

Nylon self-locking cable ties (zip ties), 6-1/2 inch length, issued in packs of 100. Used throughout the force to bundle wiring, secure gear to racks and vehicles, and for general field-expedient fastening.
