Batteries
9-Volt Batteries
Standard 9-volt alkaline battery stocked as a SKILCRAFT/AbilityOne item, typically packaged 12 per pack. Soldiers use it for smoke detectors, test equipment, and other devices that take a rectangular 9-volt cell.
AA Batteries
Standard 1.5-volt AA alkaline battery stocked through the military supply system, typically as a SKILCRAFT/AbilityOne item packaged 24 per pack. Soldiers use it to power flashlights, optics, GPS units, and other small electronics.
D Batteries
Standard 1.5-volt D-cell alkaline battery in the federal supply system, typically packaged 12 per pack as an AbilityOne item. Soldiers use it in the MX-991/U angle-head flashlight and other equipment that takes D cells.
Lights & chem lights
Angle-Head Flashlight (MX-991/U)
The classic USGI right-angle flashlight (MX-991/U, commonly the Fulton-made version), powered by two D-cell batteries and issued with red, blue, and clear lens filters. The angled head lets Soldiers clip it to LBE or a pack strap and keep both hands free.
Chem Light (Green)
A 6-inch green chemical light stick that glows for about 12 hours after being snapped and shaken. Soldiers use chem lights for marking positions, routes, casualties, and vehicles, and for low-signature illumination at night.
