ADP 3-19
Fires
ADP 3-19 defines the fires warfighting function -- its tasks, its capabilities, and how effects are delivered and integrated through targeting. It deliberately covers more than field artillery: air and missile defense, joint fires, and nonlethal effects all live here. It replaced ADP 3-09 as the Army's fundamental fires publication.

What to take from it
- Fires includes lethal and nonlethal effects delivered by Army, joint, and multinational capabilities.
- Targeting is the process that integrates fires with the rest of the operation.
- Supersedes ADP 3-09 and ADRP 3-09, both dated 31 August 2012; the renumbering from 3-09 to 3-19 was deliberate, because fires is not one branch's business.
- Air and missile defense is part of the fires warfighting function.
